Comrade Commander Sherman Watson Jr. is a husband and a father of three and is very committed to his family and community. Comrade Watson Jr. served in the United States Marine Corps from 2002-2007 as a Machine Gunner (MOS 0331) with 3rd Battalion 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. During his exceptional military service, which included three combat deployments, he was awarded the Purple Heart with 2 Stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Medal and others. After his time in service, Comrade Watson Jr. still strived to serve the community and advocate for veterans, through volunteering with the Compton Veterans and The Mission Continues organizations. Comrade Watson Jr. is a graduate of El-Camino College in 2016 with a degree in Computer Information Systems and has dedicated his civilian career to working with and assisting all at-risk Veterans. Comrade Watson Jr. is committed to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and has a strong sense of fulfillment living and servicing our members and all those who have served, here in Compton and the surrounding communities. He has held the position of Trustee at both the Post and District level as well as the Appointed Service Officer and a multitude of Committee chairmanships. Comrade Watson Jr. has been employed as a HUD-VASH Specialist and a VA Certified Peer Support Specialist.
